Settling In

This is the view from my front porch, seriously.

In a nutshell, the Viking found a new job. Not only is it a nice jump in salary and benefits, but we now get sweet discounts at certain amusement parks and merchandise related to a particular rodent with a penchant for red shorts.

The catch? We currently live about 1,300 miles west and 4,200 feet up from where we used to.

This spring and summer put me through my paces. As someone who is a strong advocate of the "pull it together and keep marching" school of hard-times management, I am pleased to say my money is where my mouth is. The Viking left right after Easter and I stayed behind to get the kids through their last trimester of school, pack up the entire house and sell it. I'll spare you the details, but the general scene can be best described as "clusterf*ck sh*tstorm." And I submitted that mess. (Yes, I'm tooting my own horn. You never know how you're going to handle something like this and I am proud that I rose to every challenge.)

Of course, being an anxiety sufferer, I'm still waiting for the post-stress nervous breakdown, but so far so good. I haven't needed more than a drink (or two) here and there to stave off any spectacular flip-outs.

We are settling in to our new home and surroundings. I wish I could push a button and everything would be in it's place, however there is still a lot of work to do. Aside from the decompression phase, coming down from the big push and going up in altitude, the mood is calmer. There are no looming deadlines anymore. I figure by the end of this year, we'll be completely acclimated and at "home." Maybe I can start working out again and the girls will be back on the mat, practicing their submissions. Patience is the key, right?

Anyway, I know this blog has been sporadic for the last 6-8 months. I'm not sure what I am going to do with this space yet. There is no way I can abandon the TARDIS, but how often I post or what I post is dependent on what comes next. I have a feeling our life is about to get interesting and for the first time in 4 months, I mean that in a good way.

Glad to hear you're all shifted over and doing well over there. I'm hoping you have a well deserved restful summer. I look forward to hearing your thoughts living in what is essentially my homeland (though I never lived directly in SLC, I've lived all through the west and Salt Lake was often the hub city we'd visit) All my best to you guys!

Gorgeous view. Makes you want to find out what's in those mountains, eh? Congrats to you and the Vike, it takes a few years to settle it. You have to get used to the quiet and the darkness. Want some rural advice? Get a dog, you'll feel safer when Vike's away. Get to know your neighbors, they'll look out for you. Take care, Lady. I bet you're a great Mom, those kiddos are lucky to have you.
